Spectrum Collective

Artist Collective

This project was imagined in response to the concept of BIOMIMICRY.

Biomimicry is an approach to innovation that seeks sustainable solutions to human challenges, by emulating nature's patterns and strategies.

Artist Statement

An emotional and spiritual connection with nature creates the foundation for a sustainable future. When someone feels connected to their environment they are more inclined to care for, and protect it. When a love for nature is stronger than material desires, our energies and imagination can be directed towards nurturing our resources. This project explores connecting people to nature through creative movement.

Dancing with trees

 Amsterdam Light Festival

This Artwork was presented by: The Amsterdam Light Festival. The location was inside The Hortus Botanicus, a botanical garden in Amsterdam founded in 1638. The Tree was projected onto The Three Climate Greenhouse. An audience member, standing in a specified location, shared their movements with the projected tree. The installation ran for a month, (Dec 9 to Jan 9) every evening. For the duration of the festival The Hortus Botanicus was free to the public as part of the Festivals Illuminade Walking Route.

Reanna Niceforo is an internationally recognized multi-disciplinary artist from Toronto.

She has exhibited in a number of galleries, has permanent artwork on display in Toronto's Liberty Village neighbourhood, created an interactive installation for Distillery District's Nuit Blanche, and has exhibited in The Amsterdam Light Festival. She is looking forward to working with the RGB light festival in Rome and is happy to return to Amsterdam again for their 2017-18 Festival of Lights.

Artist Statement

I employ a synthesis of intuition and curiosity to drive my creative process. I draw inspiration from nature, sometimes this manifests in the subject of my work, other times in the materials. I often create a sense of juxtaposition by incorporating industrial elements into my nature inspired artwork. I have an affinity for public art, as a larger than life, shared experience, but I also love to create small intricately detailed personal objects, such as jewelry.

He has curated (and exhibited in) a group exhibit/installation for Scotiabank’s Contact Festival. He has exhibited in The Amsterdam Light Festival and is looking forward to working with the RGB light festival in Rome and is happy to be returning to Amsterdam for their 2017-18 Festival of Lights.

Artist Statement

Light and shadow plays a very dominant role in my work. I try to create images using shadow as much as light to convey the story or emotion and tone of the piece. I enlighten or shed light onto the subject with special care to bring out a crafted story told in light, shadow and texture.

I truly believe light and shadow is a universal language that can instantly convey a story in a click of the shutter. As an artist I want to engage and connect with the audience, I want to enlighten and inform while entertaining.
